In the game of poker, the objective is to have the highest-ranking hand. You can win by betting until all of the other players are eliminated. In the case of a winner, the person who has the highest-ranking hand will collect all of the money bet during the hand, called the “pot.” In the event of a tie, the money in the pot is shared among the players. This is called a ‘raise.’

In most poker games, players use poker chips. These chips come in different values, ranging from one to twenty or more. A white chip is the lowest-valued. The red chip is worth five whites. Blue chips are worth ten, twenty, or even more whites. In most poker games, players “buy in” by purchasing chips equal to the amount of their bet. However, in games involving more than seven players, a dealer will usually be present at all times.

A hand consisting of five cards of the same suit is considered a “nuts” hand. If you do not have a “nuts” hand, you should fold your cards. If you do, you will lose your bet. The only exception to this rule is when you have a three-of-a-kind or a different pair. If you’re unsure, you can always ask the dealer to check your hand.
