A casino is a place where champagne glasses clink, tourists and locals mingle and people try their luck in games of chance. Table games like poker and blackjack test gamblers’ wits against one another, while slot machines give a more relaxed approach to gambling by simply spinning a wheel and hoping for a lucky break. A casino’s main goal is to encourage its guests to gamble longer, which means that it needs to make sure the experience is fun and enjoyable. The casino industry has made this a priority by providing free spectacular entertainment, elegant living quarters, reduced-fare transportation and countless other inducements to its players.

Just as important as demographic information is the understanding of your audience’s motivations. You can’t make a good plan to drive more group business to your casino if you don’t know why they’re there in the first place. They could be on a business trip, in town for a family reunion or there to celebrate a friend’s bachelorette party.

Aside from its star-studded cast, the best thing about Casino is that it’s a movie with a real sense of purpose and story. While some of the violence is over the top – Scorsese’s depiction of De Niro putting a bullet through a man’s head with a vice, and Joe Pesci’s Santoro being buried alive in a cornfield – most of the scenes were true to life in that era. And that’s why this film remains so popular to this day, even if it doesn’t quite hold up to the epic crime drama of Goodfellas.
