Poker is a card game in which players try to form the best hand possible. The hand is ranked according to the probability of its completion (its mathematical frequency), and the player with the best hand wins the pot.
Various types of poker are played, including straight poker, draw poker, and mixed-game variants. Each type of poker is based on a different set of rules and is played in a different format.
Straight:
In straight poker, each player is dealt five cards face-down. Then, a round of betting is held. Then, each player can discard up to three cards and take new ones from the top of the deck. After the last round of betting, each hand is shown to the other players.
Betting rounds:
During each round of betting, players bet in proportion to the size of their original ante. If a player does not meet the ante, he may choose to call the bet.
Bet sizing is a vital skill in poker, but many people fail to do it properly. This is because it requires a lot of calculations, weighing up previous action, the players left in the hand, stack depth, pot odds and more.
